Plugin Updates
Before updating, create a backup of the site, or at minimum back up the plugin folder and the WordPress database.
Updating Through the WordPress Admin
If the plugin was installed as a release ZIP and an update is available:
- Open
Dashboard->UpdatesorPlugins. - Find
Smart Marketing Blocks. - Run the update.
- After updating, check the pages where the blocks are used.
- Open
Settings->Smart Marketing Blocksand make sure the required blocks are enabled.
Manual Update
- Download the new plugin version.
- Deactivate the plugin while replacing files if the site runs in a sensitive production environment.
- Replace
wp-content/plugins/smart-marketing-blockswith the new version. - Activate the plugin if it was deactivated.
- Check the block editor and public pages.
What Is Preserved During Updates
- Disabled block settings are stored in the WordPress
smb_settingsoption. - Block content is stored inside WordPress posts and pages.
- Updating plugin files should not remove content from already published pages.
Post-Update Checks
- Open the post editor and make sure the blocks are available.
- Check pages that use interactive blocks: FAQ, Tabs, Table of Contents, Announcement Banner, Content Toggle, Coupon, Countdown, and Modal CTA.
- If Pro mode is used, make sure it is still active after the environment update.
